Part #: BLT-880 Creamery - 5¾" x 3½" x 2¼"

Click picture to see large view

Prior to the building of the interstate highway system in the 1950’s the railroads hauled nearly all of the milk that was consumed in the larger cities. Local farmers would deliver cans of Bessie’s best to the local creamery where it would be inspected, stored, chilled. The cans would be cleaned and returned to the farmer. The milk would be shipped to the city in railroad-hauled milk cars.

The prototypes for our kit was built at Clark’s, near Campbell Hall, NY on the New York, Ontario & Western. Similar designs could be found throughout the Northeast.

Most creameries were built before mechanical refrigeration. As a result many were built with an adjacent iceNuse. Icehouses were also used alone along the line for storage of ice for reefers and milk cars. Our icehouse is also based on a NYO&W design to match the creamery.

Our meat packing plant is based on a prototype built by Swift in Burlington, VT. Similar buildings could be seen througNut the Northeast and in other areas of the country, and the design was not unique to Swift with similar designs being used by Armour and others. Such a plant would get in wNle carcasses in meat reefers specific to the brand. Butchers in the plant would cut up the carcasses for retail trade, and from here the finished product would be shipped out by truck to retail locations.

Stock Checks:

Inventory is a fluid commodity.  It changes by the hour (sometimes by the minute). To retain our pricing structure we maintain stock levels designed to turnover 6 times each year. We cannot guarantee stock status till we have an order in hand. All product is subject to prior sale. If we confirm that we have it, and, while we are waiting for the order it sells, you would be upset that we did not hold it.
We used to hold items but learned a VERY EXPENSIVE lesson. When we held items for customers’ orders, the order never materialized 80%+ of the time.  We lost out on the orders placed while the item was on hold.  Also we wasted staff time that could have been used to pull actual orders.
Since we are well known for finding older stock the fact that it may not be on our shelves at this minute does not mean we can’t get it. So, as we spell out on our terms pages, we don’t do it anymore.
You may, however, call in and we will tell you if the items are available and if possible attempt to locate what we don’t have while you are on the phone.
