During the early days of TOFC Service, loading and unloading was a labor intensive operation. Many railroads like the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy (CB&Q); Maine Central & Rio Grande built and installed elevated walkways at some of their TOFC terminals to make it easier for yard personnel to handle tie down equipment, landing gears and hitch bases.

Cal Pak is based on a Prototype Fruit Packing operation  we found in Turlock, California. Being unable to locate any vintage photos or information on the original business...... we decided to re-design the building concept and re-name it to what you see here.

Research has shown that Cal Pak operated some where around 60 different Packing Operations up & down the West Coast in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and California that consisted of various building designs. We do not imply Cal Pak used this building design at any of their various Locations. 

If Cal Pak does not fit the bill as a viable industry on your layout........the we have included graphics for two other Packing Operations that could either be located in the Pacific Northwest or the Southwest Citrus Growing Region.

When EMD started offering their First Generation Diesels to start the Transition Era......they also started including sometime during the same period basic building specifications to the purchasing Railroads when they took delivery of their new units. These guidelines were meant to help them design facilities to service the new Diesel units.
Most of the railroads that chose to build repair facilities used these spec recommendations to build various sized repair facilities to their structural specifications.One of the major design features of this kit is the Laser Cut Brick Panels on the Exterior Walls. These panels as well as the Laser Cut pillars dividing the Brick Panels all mount on a Sub Wall that is Laser etched to guide the assembly process. 

Also included in the kit is a add-on Annex building cut from material resembling poured Concrete Tilt-up walls. It also has a Railhead Dock & separate Truck Loading Door for delivery of Parts & Supplies.

The Greyhound Bus Depot of a Bygone Era was once a central point of many communities across the nation. During this period of time, Greyhound engaged the services of several designers that used a similar new style of architecture to construct many new stations, both large and small.

This depot is designed to recall that period in Greyhound history. While it follows no specific prototype, it has some of those features. It was kept smaller to fit on your layout into Your-town USA and be layout friendly.

Armstrong Industries is basically a freelance design. It does have  influences from several NW Oregon prototypes. The primary influence came from the main production building of the Tillamook Cheese Factory in Tillamook, Oregon. The Loading Ramp Area & Roof Detail was influenced by separate Cold Storage Facilities & a Maraschino Cherry Processor in Forest Grove, Oregon.

This building was generically designed with the idea that it could be modeled for several different types of Industries. If you choose to not model it as Armstrong Industries, then there are 5 other choices included in the graphics package for you to choose from or use the dimensions from our graphics to come up with a personalized version you can fit to your layout & it's specific needs.
